Designing and operating with environmental protection, mitigation and accountability at the core

Our Environmental Philosophy

Environmental Stewardship

At NexGold, environmental stewardship is a core part of how we advance the Goldboro Gold Project. Our approach is grounded in careful planning, regulatory compliance, transparent engagement, and ongoing monitoring.

Project Environmental Commitments

The project has successfully completed the provincial Environmental Assessment process and will continue to advance subject to all regulatory approvals and conditions set by the Government of Nova Scotia, with a firm commitment to safeguarding the surrounding environment through continuous monitoring, compliance, and mitigation at every stage of development.

Our Environmental Focus

Our environmental program is designed to prevent, minimize and manage potential effects associated with project activities. Key focus areas include:

Water protection and management (surface water and groundwater monitoring; water balance planning; controlled discharge management as applicable)

Fish and aquatic habitat protection through planning, monitoring and regulatory authorizations where required

Wildlife and habitat management including avoidance measures, timing windows and monitoring programs

Tailings and waste rock management supported by engineering design, monitoring and closure planning

Air quality, noise and dust management using mitigation controls and performance monitoring

Progressive reclamation and closure planning to support long-term site stability and environmental outcomes

Mitigation and Compensation

Environmental protection for Goldboro is supported through a hierarchy of actions:

Mitigation First

We prioritize avoidance and minimization through design decisions, sequencing, best practices and monitoring. Where impacts cannot be fully avoided, mitigation measures are applied and refined over time in line with regulatory conditions and monitoring results.

Compensation Where Required

Where residual effects remain and compensation is required under applicable authorizations, NexGold develops and implements measures intended to offset those effects and support long-term environmental function (e.g., aquatic habitat-related compensation frameworks where applicable). This work is guided by regulatory requirements and technical review.

Compensation and Mitigation Plan

NexGold is advancing a structured approach to environmental planning that aligns with the project’s approvals and conditions. This includes:

i.      clear management plans (environmental management, monitoring, and reporting)
ii.     defined triggers and corrective actions based on monitoring results
iii.    ongoing engagement with regulators and relevant stakeholders
iv.    continuous improvement as project design progresses and additional technical work is completed

Goldboro received Environmental Assessment approval in August 2022 with terms and conditions, and later received Industrial Approval in August 2025—an operational approval that includes environmental terms and conditions that protect the environment during mine construction, operation and reclamation.
